Corporate Social Responsibility

ICICI Lombard has always endeavoured to go beyond its business focus and contribute to the wellbeing of all stakeholders, including the community at large. The company has taken several initiatives in the areas of preventive healthcare, road safety and disaster support being a responsible corporate citizen

Corporate Social Responsibilities

ICICI Lombard recognises and embraces its commitment to various communities across India. Our initiatives in the areas of preventive healthcare, road safety and disaster support have fostered financial immunity in tragic times.

We constantly encourage and support employee voluntarism year-round. In this regard, we have successfully implemented several projects in coordination with the ICICI foundation in tribal districts of India. These programs demonstrate how our community stakeholders, not only contribute in achieving corporate goals but also encourage non-profit humanitarian work to bring a positive change in the society.

Caring Hands Campaign

Caring Hands Campaign is an initiative launched by ICICI Lombard that aims at providing preventive healthcare services to underprivileged children, while engaging our employees as volunteers for projects that are cherished by them. In the nine years since its inception in 2011, the campaign, with support of hundreds of volunteers has been a catalyst in affecting the lives of 2, 50,000 children. Over 800 camps were organized in over 300 locations across the country. We have distributed almost 28,000 spectacles to underprivileged children so far.

Approximately 50 percent of employees volunteer for this activity every year which is a reflection of overall support that the initiative has garnered within the company. In FY20, our volunteers organized 318 camps at 110 locations and screened the vision of 43,687 children. We identified 7,929 children with poor vision and provided them with free spectacles.

The campaign has grown tremendously over the years and has been instrumental in building a sense of social responsibility and camaraderie among the employees.

Ride to Safety

Ride to Safety campaign is a nationwide initiative launched by ICICI Lombard to generate awareness on road safety in India. In a country where a life is lost every 4 minutes* in a road accident, inculcating sensible road behavior in the youth is necessary to make them responsible citizens.

To address the issue of road safety at the formative ages, workshops were initiated by our employees who were engaged as volunteers. The workshops targeted on imparting appropriate road safety values to school children at an early age that will inculcate safe road practices throughout their lives. Child-specific helmets to children riding two wheelers were also given to encourage them to follow appropriate safety measures. The response of children was heartening and their attitude encouraged us to conduct such workshops frequently.

Since September 2015, over 700 road safety workshops had been held in the metros and other major cities across India, spreading awareness among 140,000+ children and their parents till March 2020. Further, 100,000+ children and their parents had received ISI-marked child-specific helmets. In FY2020, we took the helmet distribution further by giving parents as well as children around 33,000 ISI-marked helmets, so that the entire family would be protected when riding a two-wheeler. During the year, more than 200 direct contact programmes and workshops were conducted across 7 cities, attended by 40,000+ parents and children. We also conducted rallies with parents and children in Nagpur and Pune to create and increase awareness about wearing helmets.

Niranjali

Water is the very basis of life — access to clean water can mean a healthy childhood. To give India’s children a better chance of a healthy life, our initiative ‘Niranjali’, which promotes awareness on clean drinking water, was initiated in FY2017 and has been well received in schools. This focus was in line with the ICICI Lombard’s experience in the healthcare domain and expertise in initiating projects towards preventive care – especially related to wellness. In FY2020, around 70,000 children benefited from this initiative.

ICICI Lombard’s initiation in the area of facilitating clean drinking water for school-going children happened through a stray incident. The executives, who had visited the a High School at Mumbai for another ongoing CSR project, realized that many students regularly miss school on account of upset stomachs, related to unsafe drinking water. As a response to the water-related malady, the Company initiated workshops at select schools involving underprivileged children along with their teachers to make them aware of problems related to drinking untreated water.

ICICI Lombard is increasing the scope of its activity with each passing year. Starting with 5 water-purifiers in FY 2017, the first year, the number of children benefiting from the programme touched over 100,000 with 145 water-purifiers installed till date.
